Magma Partners is a seed stage investment fund with offices in Los Angeles, California and Santiago, Chile. Since 2014, we’ve partnered with 24 companies to help them grow their businesses via private capital investments, mentorship and acceleration.
We invest in two types of companies:

Francisco Saenz – Partner
Francisco Sáenz Rica is a Chilean entrepreneur with ample consulting and management experience in big businesses, commercial real estate, finance, manufacturing, and real-estate companies. His experience in entrepreneurship began in the financial industry, where he worked for over a decade alongside his father, Orlando Sáenz Rojas, the former President of SOFOFA (the Chilean Federation of Commerce), and the founder of the first financial advisory office in Chile.
After working in the consulting business, Francisco took charge of Jardines del Bosque Investments, a fund with ownership in companies like Parque Arauco S.A., Isapre Cruz Blanca S.A., Envases del Pacífico S.A.,Banco BBVA, among others. He is either a director or an advisor participating actively in their most relevant decisions in these businesses. Francisco has been an Economics professor at the Universidad del Desarrollo, has been a director in the Fundación Nocedal, and has post-graduate studies in Literature and Philosophy.
Nathan Lustig – Partner
Nathan is an entrepreneur from Wisconsin who moved to Latin America in 2010 as part of the pilot round of Start-Up Chile. He’s started two technology companies, both of which were acquired– one by a publicly traded company– and has been featured in hundreds of international media outlets including The Economist, The New York Times and The Financial Times. He taught entrepreneurship at three top Chilean universities and is one of the principal entrepreneurs who has helped put Madison, Wisconsin on the map as a startup city via his cofounding of Capital Entrepreneurs and the Forward Technology Festival. He has written two books that help foreigners doing business in Chile and, in addition to Magma Partners, manages Andes Property, a real estate investment company in Latin America. Diego Philippi – Partner
Deeply involved in the Chilean entrepreneurship ecosystem via his work at CORFO, Start-Up Chile, Innova Chile and Imagina Chile, fiiS and, now, at CCU, he worked to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in Chile for the past seven years. During this time, Diego has worked with entrepreneurs, investors, creators, scientists and academics to develop high level projects. He has also been a mentor to Chilean and foreign startups, and has acted as an angel investor in multiple projects. He has a broad experience in business storytelling, marketing, business model canvas and more thanks to his background in marketing and advertising.
Beatriz Cereceda – Entrepreneur in Residence
Beatriz has significant experience working with multiple stakeholders: large businesses, government and startups. She started her entrepreneurial career early, bootstrapping a fashion brand. She started her career as a Studies Analyst & Strategy Planner for HR and Gender Mainstreaming in Chilean government’s Ministry of Public Works, and moved to the corporate world Banco de Créditos e Inversiones.
After a visiting more than 20 countries in a gap year, she’s managed the family office Jardines del Bosque. Beatriz has been an Assistant professor at the Universidad de los Andes, and has degrees in Business, Philosophy and Entrepreneurship. Monica Ávila Forero – Magma Colombia
Mónica is in charge of scouting, mentorship and providing a soft landing to companies that expand to Colombia. She has worked with entrepreneurs and business people for more than 15 years. She’s focused on international business, international cooperation and public/private partnerships that support entrepreneurship, acceleration, mentorship and training in Colombia.
She has degrees in finance and international relations, with a masters in business, sustainable development, corporate responsibility and international relations. She’s also worked with the Kauffman foundation in the US and Colombia to help entrepreneurs be successful.

Juan Pablo is the cofounder of Chile’s first Digital Agency, with clients like Ripley, Virgin Mobile, LG Electronics, Agrosuper y Pepsico Foods. A graduate of the University of Santiago, with advanced degrees from the Universidad Catolica, Juan Pablo has extensive business experience in Chile and Latin America. He also teaches graduate level classes at the Universidad del Desarrollo and has spoken at South By Southwest, the Internet Advertising Buerau in Mexico, Argentina and Chile and the best Chilean Universities.
Enrique is a Chilean entrepreneur with extensive experience in import/export, trading, ecommerce and technology and Professor of Entrepreneurship at Universidad Católica, Universidad del Desarrollo between others. He hold an Industrial Engineering degree from Universidad Catolica del Valparaíso and got his MBA in Germany. The founder of ImportSync, Fuzhou HC Imp and Exp Co, and Llamazo, he was also the first Chilean to take part in Startup Chile. He is also a founding member of Mindset.cl, an entrepreneurship program supported by the Kauffman Foundation.
Born in Dublin, Ireland Stephen has worked in Europe, US and Latin America. He began his career in the advertising business, where over a 10 year period he worked with leading agencies in strategy and client services. He moved to Barcelona where he joined Hewlett Packard and held a number of leadership positions including Worldwide Marketing and Communications Mgr for Digital Imaging products. In 1999 he became VP and General Manager at ecommerce start-up NUA with offices in New York , London and Dublin. He launched his own digital marketing agency in 2001 and went on to win over 50 national and international awards until the business was acquired in 2012 when he moved to Santiago, Chile. He is currently founder and director at consulting and training companies Mindset Chile and Kauffman Fasttrac, as well as director of ecommerce company Luxe Marketing.
A British national, David studied at University College London and the London School of Economics. He previously lived in Argentina where he interned at Rolex, perfected his Spanish and fell in love with the continent. He later worked as a fixed income salesman on the Iberian desk for Merrill Lynch in London. He left Merrill to set up The Intern Group and promote a new form of study abroad to students worldwide, international internship programs. He currently has offices in Chile, Colombia, England, Spain, Hong Kong and the United States.
Cameron is an entrepreneur from Oakland, California with extensive experience in Silicon Valley & Latin America. He started his career at Google and has since advised, worked for and started ventures in California, Mexico, Chile and Brazil. After working as the lead search trends analyst at Google during the 2014 World Cup, he cofounded Gol Labs to meet the massive unmet demand for soccer content in emerging markets. Cameron has also spent time working in the agriculture and informal banking sector in Latin America and Africa, helping farmers get better access to data and addressing gaps in the credit markets with Kiva.org.
